First Day Back to School Traditions

I've tried to take a picture of the First Day Back to School in our Homeschool. I've tried to do it every year. I don't know if I could call it a tradition, because I don't think I always succeeded. (I don't know for sure, because I never put the pictures into that neat frame I bought for the purpose!)  I wish that I had!  Capturing a special moment or time and being able to say, "We always do this" is called a "tradition"!  And children need traditions!  I have a hard time maintaining traditions, because I have a bad memory.  "What did we do last year??"  (What did we do last week!!)  But, taking pictures makes the memories last.  You don't think you'll ever forget, but you do. And, while your children are growing DAILY, you are not noticing it, (unless you have to go out and buy all new clothes again only 3 months later)!  Pictures remind you of how your children looked, and how they have changed, and are a precious keepsake of their innocence and their growth.  And, in a sense, pictures stop time, if only for an instant.  They're going to grow up too fast! Can I encourage you to start a tradition of taking their picture on the 1st Day Back to School this year?

What do you always do on the 1st Day of School?
Do you have any traditions?

I try to have a smooth day of explaining lessons that will be working on for the month. I also thought this year it would be great to have a small "school at home" party where we can ask each other questions/voice concerns and ideas. Hopefully I can post some pics in a few weeks.

I took a picture as you did each year.. this year I forgot. Had too many things on my mind with the changes, and preparation we are going through to move.

It is not too late! Some of my favorite pictures (later on) have been where I saw us in the midst of chaos, trying to eat supper with paint rollers on the table, wallpaper ripped off the wall, packing boxes everywhere, etc. Anyway, you can still take it! Right?
