A Picture of Encouragement

This is a 100-year-old postcard
A Picture of Encouragement
To Me

What encourages You?

Do you want someone to:

1. Tell you you're doing a good job and why. (or just tell you you're doing a good job:)

2. Show you verses in Scripture that will help you.

3. Put their arm around you and give you a hug.

4. Be transparent with you about their own struggles and how they're dealing with the same problems you're facing; and share with you what God is teaching them.

5. Share with you practical tips on how to do better what you're doing.

6. Pray with and for you.

7. Sit down over a cup of tea and just listen to you.

8. Model what it looks like day by day to walk with God.

9. Share with you how they've successfully applied Scripture to their life, family and problems.

10. Rejoice and/or just Laugh with you.

11. All of the above

12. ??????

Webster's 1828 Dictionary defines "encourage" this way: ENCOUR'AGE, v.t. enkur'rage. To give courage to; to give or increase confidence of success; to inspire with courage, spirit, or strength of mind; to embolden; to animate; to incite; to inspirit. "But charge Joshua, and encourage him." Deuteronomy 3.

I'd like to hear your thoughts: What has encouraged you, who lifted you up when you were down, or what ways have you encouraged others?

Wendy,

There is a myriad of ways in which others and the Lord encourages me. I couldn't begin to list them all because they depend on the circumstances. They maybe phone calls, cards, gifts, finding a verse at just the right time, emails, and sometimes just a hug. Often the person never even realizes they were being an encouragement. It helps me to remember to do what the Holy Spirit wants me to, instead of ignoring those little promptings. I may never know what something simple may mean to another.

Your kind comments on posts have been an encouragement to me. Although I don't post to appeal to others, it does help to know that others are reading and pondering God's Word also. I wish time would allow for me to comment more frequently to encourage others also. However, that isn't my season right now.

Berean Wife,
It is encouraging to know that God uses us when we never even know it, and I agree that it is so important to be listening to that still small voice and obeying His promptings. If we are looking for ways to encourage others, the Lord will point them out to us. I believe it's a testimony that praises God when we share a specific example of receiving encouragement just when we needed it.
Thanks for taking the time to comment :)
Faithfully-yours,
Wendy
