Hymns for the Heart

The words to the hymns we sing in church each Sunday often speak to my heart so intimately that I feel as though the Lord has picked them just for me, and that there are secret messages from His heart to mine.
Here is one we sang recently:
(It was the first time that I had ever sung it)

I Will Not Forget Thee
Sweet is the promise--"I will not forget thee,"
Nothing can molest or turn my soul away;
E'en tho' the night be dark within the valley,
Just beyond is shining one eternal day.

I will not forget thee or leave thee;
In my hands I'll hold thee,
in my arms I'll fold thee;
I will not forget thee or leave thee;
I am thy Redeemer, I will care for thee.

Trusting the promise--"I will not forget thee,"
Onward will I go with songs of joy and love;
Tho' earth despise me, tho' my friends forsake me.
I shall be remembered in my home above.

I will not forget thee or leave thee;
In my hands I'll hold thee, in my arms I'll fold thee;
I will not forget thee or leave thee;
I am thy Redeemer, I will care for thee.

When at the golden portals I am standing,
All my tribulations, all my sorrows past,
How sweet to hear the blessed proclamation,
"Enter, faithful servant, welcome home at last!"

I will not forget thee, I will never leave thee;
In my hands I'll hold thee, in my arms I'll fold thee;
I will not forget thee or leave thee;
I am thy Redeemer, I will care for thee.

Living For Jesus

Living for Jesus a life that is true,Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.

O Jesus, Lord and Saviour, I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy atonement, Didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master, My heart shall be Thy throne;
My life I give, hence-forth to live, O Christ, for Thee alone.

Living for Jesus who died in my place,
Bearing on Calvary my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.

Living for Jesus wherever I am,
Doing each duty in His holy name;
Willing to suffer affliction and loss,
Deeming each trial a part of my cross.

Living for Jesus through earth's little while,
My dearest treasure, the light of His smile;
Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem
Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.

O Jesus, Lord and Saviour, I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy atonement, Didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master, My heart shall be thy throne;
My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ, for Thee alone.

I think there is nothing else quite like putting music to sweet words. Very moving.

Wendy,
What a wonderful post! These hymns are so beautiful. I love to worship and sing to praise the Lord. For some reason, I always feel that playing music or singing brings me closer to the Lord because it opens up my heart.

Thank you so much for sharing this and your lovely comment on my blog! I really enjoyed reading bits and pieces of your blog. Thank you for all your inspiring words. I look forward to reading more.

Have a blessed Sunday,
Kate

Thank you, Alicia, Denise and Kate,
I am so blessed by the hymns and when I'm feeling low, I often take out my hymnbook, and sing. Kind of like David playing for Saul, it soothes my soul.
Blessings,
Wendy
