Thoughts on Discernment

From a recent message on Insight for Living with Chuck Swindoll, here are some thoughts:
"When you are searching for Truth, listen carefully to the one who is speaking, and look at who's following."
6 credos:
1) "We're living in treacherous times."

2) "Discernment plays a vital role in surviving treacherous times. (I'm not so much down on methods, as I'm concerned in Truth.)"

3) "(It gets more complicated.) Historical roots and doctrinal truths must continue to be valued and embraced."

4) "Each generation of believers has a serious responsibility to forge out its beliefs anchored in the unchanging doctrines laid out in the Scriptures which do not change and do not lie."


"If you have (forged out your beliefs), do your children know it? Do your grandchildren know it?... God doesn't have grandchildren."

5) "It is the job of the church's leaders to guide and guard the Church, and the ministry." (This includes): "Facing error whenever it arises. Watching over what is taught, standing against those who would sabotage the Church. We react wisely and forthrightly when we encounter spiritual predators. It's my passion 365/52/7."

6) "Finally, a strong and healthy Church today is no guarantee of a strong and healthy church tomorrow."
