Love and Marriage: Why Am I Not Married?!?

Do you agree with this statement?  The image above and the quote below are from an article by Anna Sophia and Elisabeth Botkin, on their website Visionary Daughters, entitled
(Please click on the link to read the whole article)
"For every girl we know asking why so few young men are “ready,” we know a young man asking where the ready and eligible girls are. Our brothers and their friends have told us that many of the qualities girls have cultivated to make themselves “eligible” are things that won’t come up on young men’s radar screens, and the qualities the young men are most looking for have been neglected.
For example, though many may have mastered skills like sewing and music, they often seem to be living in a hobby world, removed from the concerns of the real world, and lacking a basic understanding of what’s going on. Some may have learned to be “content,” but haven’t learned to be joyful. Some may be sweet girls, but they often communicate stiffness, timidity, aloofness, or coldness in public. Others may be popular and socially active, but haven’t built real relationships with their own family. Some may feel ready to be loved and romanced, but not ready to love sacrificially. Others may be very accomplished in “feminine arts” (cake decorating, flower arranging, scrapbooking), but lacking in practical skills that will recommend them as capable helpers (the kind of skills that would be required to start a business, manage finances, help run a ministry, etc.)"
(Please go over and read the full article!  It's very interesting and full of thought-provoking material, you'll be glad you did.
So, what do you think?)

There are some parts of this quote which I would take issue with, and other parts which I agree with. What do you think? What is the reason some are putting off marriage these days? What are Godly young men looking for? Are girls "living in a hobby world"? Do girls need to learn "practical skills that will recommend them as capable helpers (the kind of skills that would be required to start a business, manage finances, help run a ministry, etc."?  Is it a girl's fault if she's not married?

Oh my! What a thought provoking question this is! One that I don't have complete answeres for...this is very interesting! Thanks for sharing! I need to think of this for a while and come back and comment!

And thanks for stopping by my blog. Haha I got 10 new followers yesterday! wow! If only I got that everyday ;) I havn't been to your page in a while :( Well I havn't really been on my own either. I'm taking 10 units right now in 6 weeks! Yikes! haha so all my extra time has been given to my gubby :) But my classes are ending soon so hopefully I will have more time soon :)

Aaw and thank you :0 I'm glad you were looking at my wedding photos! Haha that is so funny you thought you saw me! Funny how blogging world and real world gets mixed!

Wow it sounds like you have been very busy as well. Having company over can be such a blessing but also oh so tiring! I'm actually in the middle of reading a book on Hospitality called "Practicing Hospitality" by Pat Ennis and Lisa Tatlock. Have you ever heard of it? It is amazing! I am really enjoying it. It goes over the joys and also Biblical principals of Hospitality. It would be a great book to do a small group with. At the end of each chapter is has dicussion questions and charts refrencing the bible verses. Each chapter also contains recipes that coinside with the chapter. It is a very good book! The authors are both professors at The Master's College (John MacArthur's college) in the Home Economics department...haha just in case you were wondering. I alawys like knowing who certain books are affiliated with...you never know what you are getting when you open a so called "Christian book". Haha.

Anyway..wow I'm rambling now. I am praying for you and your family. I pray that God encourages you as a good godly hostess and I pray for the clean up and relaxation time when it is all done. Can I be praying about anything else for you?

Thanks for stopping by! Your comments always make me smile :) and I always then have to show them to Hubby :)

I hope you are having a good week!

Oh, James, your comments always make me smile, too! I just read your comment to my husband and told him that if we ever go to California, I want to meet you. He jokingly told me to tell you that I'm only going to talk to "real" people (not "cyber people" who we all know aren't real, right?!) He likes to tease me like that:)since he knows personally some of the cyber people who are my followers! :) Anyways, thanks so much for your sweet note updating me on your busy life! (and you still had time to go over to 10 blogs and gain 10 new followers?) Wow, I'm so impressed! You do have a knack for getting it all said and done in just a few lines of type, which I haven't learned to do. Ha!
Well, thanks so much for your prayers! Just pray for my unsaved brother and nephew who are going to be visiting here for 2 weeks. We would like to see them give their lives to the Lord. And we want to show them love and hope they enjoy their time here again this year.
Blessings, Jamie!

Interesting questions. I of course, don't know the answer. But in my sister's case, she has two reasons for waiting to get married. She wants to finish grad school before taking on a family and she is having trouble finding a Godly man. These days we find that a true Godly man is hard to find. But I know God has the perfect man out there for her. And luckily she doesn't stress about it.

Alyssa,
Oh, I'm sorry! I'm thinking of posting what I think soon, but first I had to think for awhile and mull it over--I'm still thinking! And I didn't want to lead others' thoughts, by posting mine first. But I did want to know what they thought, just like you did! But I did think afterwards that maybe I should have mentioned that I read this article through your post, so I am sorry. Please forgive me. I hope to write something about what I'm thinking this next week.
Lots of Love,
Mrs. Gunn
