Quotes about Prayer

For more on prayer, see:
Quotes about Prayer (Part 2) and Quotes about Prayer (Part 3)

I have asked God for direction and purpose.  What is my purpose?!  My purpose is:  To Pray.

  • Carve out time for it.
  • Be disciplined in it.
  • Be Faith-Full in it.
  • Organize it and write down my prayers.
  • Effect change through it.
  • Wage warfare by it.
  • Build towers of defense through it.
  • Expect answers from it.

"God does nothing except in response to believing prayer."  John Wesley (Famous evangelist who spent 2 hours daily in prayer)

"One should never initiate anything that he cannot saturate with prayer."

"Men may spurn our appeals, reject our message, oppose our arguments, despise our persons, but they are helpless against our prayers." Sidlow Baxter

"Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees." Corrie ten Boom

Its good to know the direction and purpose in life. Prayer is a powerful mission for sure. I am often confused in how to pray, and what to pray for, but God is a good teacher, and every day is a new lesson. God bless you.

Lena,
God is a good teacher. And He cares about what concerns us. I'm not a "great" pray-er, I just talk to God. This acronym kind of explains what I do (like I said, no special words, I just talk to God): PRAY
P=Praise (I like to repeat Scripture in my praises, when I remember to do it)
R=Repent (confessing known and unknown sins, attitudes, words, and thoughts)
A=Ask (Share what's on my heart; I have a list of people to pray for, too)
Y=Yield (Listen to what He's saying, and think about what I've read in the Bible and what He wants me to do about it; let Him change me; listen for prompting of what "good works He's prepared beforehand" for me to do).
The listening, just being quiet before God, is something new for me, and really trying to hear from Him. (Not some mystical thing.) I read my Bible first, in order to be thinking His thoughts first before I pray (an idea from George Mueller). This saves me a lot of time!
I loved how you said "every day is a new lesson"! You are sooooo right.
Blessings,
Wendy

Hi Wendy!

Thanks sooo much for stopping by and taking a minute to say hi :) It's been so long!! I haven't talked to you in so long!

Sorry it took me a little while to get back to you..I have been a little MIA in blog land lately. Senior year of college is proving to be a little bit busy!

Anyway, I hope you are doing good :) Talk to you again soon I hope!!

Love,
James

Hey stranger!
Soooo good to hear from you! I was feeling like you must think I'd dropped off the edge of the world! Glad you're still alive (I guess we've BOTH been a little MIA, and I don't even have senior year of college to blame!) Hope you, too, are doing well and yes, let's talk soon!
Love ya girl!
Wendy

Such simple, yet profound, words.

I have such a burden lately to have a more meaningful prayer life. I liked your list. It was compact and complete! It made me think.

I especially want to grab on to these two aspects of prayer:

Effect CHANGE through it.
WAGE warfare by it.

Thanks, Wendy, for giving me some good words to think on...

GOD BLESS!

Sharon,
I'm believing, with you, that He's put that desire in our hearts, that He's just waiting to change the world through our prayers--and change us--and He's going to bless our socks off in the process.
Putting on the armor, and taking up my sword,
Wendy
