We Could Change The World by Changing the Quality of Books in Our Libraries! Timely Tips on Tuesday

My friend, Linda, gave me a great tip recently.  She notified me of the fact that you can find the Vision Forum book, "Large Family Logistics: The Art and Science of Managing the Large Family," by Kim Brenneman, in your local library!  Follow her excellent example and, if your library doesn't have it, do what she did, and ask them to order it!  They did that, and think how blessed everyone in her library system is now.

This set me to thinking.  What if all of us followed her example?  What if all Christian women, moms, and Homeschoolers were proactive about the kind and quality of reading material that is to be found in their library system.
First of all, we could check out all the quality books that the library has on its shelves on a regular basis.  You know, the old "living books."  A living book, according to Carole Seid, is one which, when you stop reading, your child begs you to read just one more chapter!  (Here's a list of Kelsey's Favorite Children's Books.) Libraries judge whether to keep a book, in part, based on how often it is checked out!

Secondly, we could ask them to purchase excellent, well-written and well-illustrated materials.  Maybe even Godly books.  If you are like me, then you have been bemoaning, for some time, the plight and demise of the public library, especially those in the suburbs, for the fact that they have been giving away the quality books and replacing them with rubbish.  Instead of complaining, I think this is a "far-better way"!  So, please join me in acting on this tip, and let's see if we can't make a difference. Just think if every Christian mom would begin to request excellent reading material to be placed in her library!  In one generation or less we could change the quality of our libraries.  I'm sure that you realize the influence that a really good book can have on a child (on an adult, too!), so I don't think it's overstating the case to say that, "We could change the world!"
