It's Impossible

The quote I posted yesterday I heard when listening to an Elisabeth Elliot message (go to the bottom of this blog, and click on the first link under "Moving Messages" to hear "A Stronghold of My Life" and other great messages by her).  Prompted by those words which I found really helpful in daily learning how to keep a quiet heart, I  wanted to see if there were other quotes out there by Francis De Sales.

I came across this quote which I found very humbling and challenging, for I'm sure that I do not possess this quality.  Yet, I see that it's a quality that Christ demonstrated.  So, I pray that He will manifest it in me somehow.  How does one go about growing in this aspect of Christlikeness?

“The person who possesses Christian meekness is affectionate and tender towards everyone: he is disposed to forgive and excuse the frailties of others; the goodness of his heart appears in a sweet affability that influences his words and actions, presents every object to his view in the most charitable and pleasing light.”

Francis De Sales (1567-1622)

My conclusion:
Without Christ, it is impossible, but "With God, all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26)

Jessica,
Yes, I know. Especially when you think in terms of those who know you best--your family. And that is why I say it is impossible. How can anyone say they could even try to be "good enough" that God would let them into heaven? I could never be good enough. I need Him every hour, as the hymn says.
