Love and Marriage: How To Be A Helpmeet

In Genesis 2:18 the LORD God said,
"It is not good that the man should be alone;
I will make him a help meet for him."

The key to understanding how to be a helpmeet begins with being aware that you are a helpmeet to one (and only one) unique individual man:  your own husband.

Think of all the varieties of men and husbands just within  your own circle of friends.  It may come as somewhat of a relief to you to realize that you don't have to cater to any of their whims or take any notice of their notions.  You do not need to be interested or intrigued by their idiosynchrosies.

What your husband wishes:  his needs, his dreams; his goals, purposes and plans:  they are what concern you!

Your husband.  Make a study of him.  Be attentive.  Pick up on signals others would miss.  Your job is not to make him holy.  God will see to that.  Help your husband succeed.  And make him happy.

Lloyd,
I think half the world's ills would be remedied if we wives would pay attention to our husbands, try to make them happy, and be joyful in our homes. Thanks for the encouragement to keep on writing on this subject!
Blessings,
Wendy

If you make a study of your husband, keep notes, and also write down a testimony of what his response is to your attention, I guarantee that it will change your marriage and bring delight to your home.

I remember a time in my young Christian walk where I was around women who made all mens words importnant. And made it out that we were to obey all men( as women are this inferior being not worth anything) I remember thinking" there is no way I could listen and obey all these men" Through study of Gods Word and the Holy Spirit I came to realize I did not have to listen, obey or even consider the words of these men. There was only one man in my heart and life and his words were the ones I was to heed or care about. What a relief that was and I was grateful to be released from that bondage.

Thank you for this reminder Wendy.

Angie,
Wise words. Our eyes and hearts should be focusing on our own husband. The Word of God is our guide, and it says to reverence our husbands. Honestly, because they're human, sometimes this will take work, but having a wrong focus on pleasing other men and considering their wishes above our husbands would only make obeying the Word of God more difficult and create confusion in our minds and hearts.
Let's all be a "one-man woman"!
Blessings to you,
Wendy
